David Bowie’s original mugshot from his March 1976 arrest in Rochester, New York, is headed to auction.
The seller, a longtime Bowie fan, was given the photo as a wedding gift by “the officer who fingerprinted and photographed David Bowie” the night of his arrest on drug charges after a night out with Iggy Pop.
The photo has been safely hidden away for the past 46 years.
Reports from the incident say Bowie and three others, including Pop, were arrested at 2:25 a.m. on March 21, 1976, and detained for about three hours following a performance in Rochester. Police confiscated about half a pound of marijuana.
Bowie was released after posting $2,000 bail. He pleaded not guilty and a jury did not take up the case.
In May, the Brett Morgan-directed Bowie documentary Moonage Daydream was screened publicly for the first time at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival.
The film is set to be released in Australian cinemas in September. An exact date is yet to be announced.
