If you feel like you’ve woken up in 2050 you’re not alone, a very strange looking, futuristic object has popped up on a Melbourne road, in Croydon, conveniently located in the bike lane. The object looks like it’s straight out of Dr. Who, or something you’d see in a movie where humans finally discovered how to time-travel, and plopped a time-travel device in the most inconvenient spot ever.

According to VicRoads the object is an autonomous traffic monitoring device for locations like accident hotspots. The device, according to the VicRoads website, can be used for measuring speed, enforcing tolls, or recognising license plates.

That is scary stuff! Lucky it’s an absolute eyesore so you’ll likely spot it from a mile away and have plenty of warning! We certainly don’t condone speeding when the object is not in sight, but it’s always nice to have a giant, unmissable warning that a roadside camera is up ahead!

Some locals have taken to social media to voice their opinions about the contraption, one user saying “Very inconspicuous, very unnoticeable.” And concerns over the device being placed in the bike lane have emerged. The device meant to enforce road rules for our safety might actually be an accident waiting to happen, one user saying “Nice of them to block the bike lane. Cause traffic issues and danger for bikes to go round,”

“Parking it in the Bike lane is an accident waiting to happen,” another said.

“How it’s allowed to be placed in the bike lane is beyond me and I would suggest it won’t be long until it receives a paint job to stop the camera working,” one social media user added.

So it’s not a very popular addition to Melbourne roads. How do you feel about it?!
