**Warning for Fans – spoilers below**

Yellowstone fans were in for a shock as the beloved series returned, only for the euphoria to turn to outrage over the fate of a key character.

The buzz began when Kevin Costner’s John Dutton III was discovered to have met an untimely demise. This unexpected twist left viewers fuming, especially because the camera bypassed providing a final glimpse of Costner’s face.

Social media exploded as fans vented their frustration. One enraged viewer tweeted, “If THAT’S how they decide to end a great character like John Dutton… THAT’S BULLS***”. Another lamented, “@Yellowstone already lame for killing off John Dutton. I know it was issues with getting Costner on-board. But this was so lame.”

The sentiment was echoed across platforms, with another stating, “Damn. They killed John Dutton off in the first minute. That’s so freaking savage.”

Despite the initial uproar, director Christina Voros assured fans that John Dutton remains a pivotal presence, noting, “To say any more than that would potentially compromise all the work that went into redacting the scripts.”

Show creator Taylor Sheridan addressed the drama behind the scenes, explaining, “My last conversation with Kevin was that he had this passion project he wanted to direct,” referring to Costner’s now-failed Western film, Horizon. Whether fans will move past this twist remains to be seen, but it sure has stoked the Yellowstone conversation.
