In a poignant announcement, the National Holden Motor Museum in Echuca revealed that it will close its doors on April 14, 2024. Since its inception in 1993, the museum has held a significant place in Echuca and has proudly claimed the title of the longest continuously running single-make museum in Australia since 1984.
The decision to close stems from the toll that the museum’s daily operations in a bustling tourist town have taken on the personal lives of its caretakers. Despite their desire to keep the museum within Echuca, the owners found it necessary to offer it for sale. Regrettably, no serious buyers emerged, leading to the difficult conclusion that the museum will cease operations on April 14. Following the closure, an auction of the museum’s contents, which the caretakers own, is scheduled for May 18, 2024, with Burns and Co. overseeing the proceedings.
The majority of the vehicles currently on display are on loan, and they will be returned to their respective owners after the closure. The National Holden Motor Museum expressed its heartfelt gratitude to the display vehicle owners, both past and present, loyal social media followers, local businesses, visitors, friends, and families who have steadfastly supported the museum over the years.
